Stories on the Fringe: LGBTQ Histories through Performance
This workshop begins with a brief introduction to the history of LGBTQ performance and storytelling exploration on the importance of documentation in marginalized communities. Then participants have a chance to express their own creative ideas through a specific series of techniques used by professional artists for devising performance that includes movement, writing, improvisation, presentation, and feedback. Participants will have a chance to work both individually and in groups. These techniques serve as reusable structures with the flexibility to incorporate content of any kind and are useful for both newer and experienced artists from all artistic backgrounds. Participants will leave this workshop with a critical analysis of LGBTQ performance and a practical set of tools and exercises that can be used in their own creative process and projects as they add to the future of LGBTQ performance. No experience necessary. This workshop is open to all levels.
Approximately 1 hour in length.
